JOB TYPE: 1-year Fixed Term Contract

JOB PURPOSE

To support Inspired in the development of a Biodiversity Learning and
Incubation Hub, which is specifically designed to enable people with
intellectual disabilities to have a voice in Climate Action while
creating opportunities that will enable them to create social
enterprises and gain valued social roles.

To implement inclusive programmes, training and social role
opportunities for participants based on sustainable food production
and biodiversity driven projects.

To develop proposals for management that will support new
opportunities and initiatives with potential to add value to the
experience of participants and other programme trainees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lands and Horticultural Gardens Facilitator will:

* In consultation with other experts, contribute to the development
of a Biodiversity Action Plan and the development of a 5-year
Strategic Plan for the Hub and associated garden and food production
activities and opportunities.
* Take responsibility as appropriate for the overall development,
maintenance and maturity of gardens and land.
* Direct and supervise the workload and practices of employees,
coworkers, consultants, and volunteers and support them with
prioritising the same.
* Build and maintain relationships of trust and confidence with
adults with support needs, coworkers, employees, consultants, and
volunteers.
* Liaise with and participate as part of the professional team or
other designated person or group as appropriate.
* Work in accordance with the Inspired policies and procedures.
* Engage in personal and professional development that will ensure
the necessary skills and knowledge is acquired to meet the changing
needs of the position.

MAIN TASKS:

* Maintain the programme diary on a daily or weekly basis, ensuring
necessary care and needs within the land and garden are arranged
throughout seven days of the week and any holiday periods.
* Maintain Health and Safety regulations within the programme,
compiling Risk Assessments on the use of equipment where necessary.
* Formulate biodiversity and garden plans for each year.
* Source the materials, resources and expertise required for the
project / activity.
* Plan seasonal sowing of seeds for garden and tunnels, both
vegetables and flowers.
* Manage the sowing of seeds, preparation of beds for planting,
pruning, harvesting, weeding, watering, and any other related duties.
* Transplanting and planting trees and plants in accordance with the
garden plan.
* Hardening off seedlings ready for planting out.
* Monitoring the production of vegetables and fruit to make the Hub
as self-sufficient as possible.
* Keep the area pleasant, clean, tidy, and safe.
* Maintain all documentation required and associated with the garden
and its biodiversity.
* Assist with funding applications associated with garden and
biodiversity focused grant aid.
* Maintain all records associated with Bord Bia quality scheme,
Organic Farming Scheme, LEADER projects and any other programmes and
quality assurance schemes or statutory compliances as associated with
the garden activities are implemented.
* Ensure that all treatments are managed in statutory requirements
and best practice in health and safety management. That appropriate
risk assessments are carried out to ensure that any risks specific to
supporting vulnerable adults / children in the garden enterprises are
appropriately planned for and managed.
* Ensure that visitors are managed in a planned and safe way when
visiting / engaged in the activity of the garden enterprises.
* Engage effectively with the annual garden planning and budgetary
process.

IN CONJUNCTION WITH INSPIRED STAFF

* Plan the training of people with support needs, identifying the
best activity and approach for each person, providing guidance,
motivating, developing and directing people as they work.
* Create a good working and training environment and a group dynamic
that enables each person to benefit from their time in the programme.
* Assist people with support needs in their work or training
wherever necessary and overseeing/supervising their tasks once they
can work independently.
* Ensure that the timetabling roster is adhered to and inform the
relevant people of absences. Supervise punctuality and quality of
work.
* To attend the appropriate meetings as requested
* Work under limited supervision, following standardised practices
and/or methods, providing information, advising others and reporting
to the Project Coordinator.
* Lead, prepare and facilitate regular programmes.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

* Hold a qualification at QQI Level 6 (Full award) or above in
Agriculture, Horticulture, Organic Farming.
* Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the
agriculture or horticulture as applicable to the role
advertised. (ESSENTIAL)
* Experience in working with adults with an intellectual disability
/ autism (DISTINCT ADVANTAGE)
* Have suitable vegetable production experience and good knowledge,
with an ability to produce a range of seasonal produce for the Hub.
* Ability to contribute towards the support, coaching, managing, and
motivating and developing a mixed workforce, consultants, volunteers
and employees.
* Basic IT skills and record keeping skills relevant to the role.
* Full driving licence
